Dill Seed Essential Oil

Everything's built to expire on schedule. You've started to feel that includes you.
Everything now is built to expire, upgrade and be replaced on cue, and nothing is made to keep. Dill is a preserving seed, the thing that stops other things going off. In a world that needs you to feel out of date, refusing to spoil is nearly an act of sabotage.

WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SOLD

Built to expire. And the logic gets in.

Almost everything now is built to expire: designed to slow, to date, to fall just out of fashion or support on a schedule, so you'll replace it on cue and the cycle keeps turning. Nothing much is made to keep any more. And the strange, corrosive part is how the logic creeps inward, until you start to feel it about yourself, too, that you're a slightly out-of-date model, due an upgrade, quietly behind.

They build it to expire. This one declines, on principle.

WHAT THIS ACTUALLY IS

Dill Seed Essential Oil, steam distilled from the seed of Anethum graveolens from Hungary. Sharp, fresh and herbaceous with a caraway-green edge and the clean pickle-jar note of a seed that has spent centuries doing one honest job: keeping things from going off. It is a preserving spice. It is, by nature, on the side of lasting.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

Down in the Scent Sanctum, dill is what Keld keeps in the Keeping-Cellar, for the ones an upgrade-everything world has started to make feel out of date.

  • Made to keep: Kept for the intention to feel that you, like the preserving seed, were made to last rather than to expire on someone's schedule.
  • Not out of date: For when you want to stop feeling replaceable in a world that needs you to feel behind so you'll upgrade.
  • The preserving air: Sharp, fresh, keeping air that gives a space a clean, unspoiled, made-to-last character.
  • The enduring hour: For the hour you choose to keep something, and yourself, rather than replace it.

WHY YOU NEED IT

Keep the thing. Keep yourself.

Kept for the hour you decide to hold onto something, and someone, rather than replace them on schedule. A few drops when you want the room to feel clean, sharp and unspoiled, and to remember that made-to-last is not the same as out of date.

Made to keep is not old-fashioned. It's the rarer engineering.

GIFT · THE ONE MADE TO FEEL OUT OF DATE

Quietly convinced they're a slightly old model, due an upgrade, behind. Remind them they were built to last.

To the one who feels replaceable

Made to keep, not replace.

GIFT · THE KEEPER OF THINGS

Mends, keeps, holds onto the good stuff long past when the world says to bin it. Give them the preserving seed.

To the one who keeps things

On the side of lasting.

GIFT · THE SHARP-GREEN SORT

Loves a clean, sharp, pickle-adjacent freshness with an honest edge.

To the dill devotee

You know exactly who this is for.

DO NOT GIVE TO

The serial upgrader who replaces everything the moment a newer one exists and would find dill 'a bit last-season'. Nothing is ever quite new enough. That is the whole trap.

Some things aren't due an upgrade.

Built to expire. And the logic gets in.

KELD, keeper portrait
KELD

Keld declined the upgrade. The upgrade did not last.

Keld is a golem, one of the old made-things given the single steady task of keeping, and he keeps the Keeping-Cellar, the deep cool store where nothing is allowed to spoil. He has stood at his post, unchanged and unupgraded, for longer than the Sanctum has kept records, and he trusts dill above the showier spices because it is a preserving seed, entirely on the side of lasting, exactly as he is.

He has watched the world above build everything to expire, to slow and date and fall out of support on a schedule so it gets replaced on cue, and he has watched the Surfacefolk start, sadly, to feel the same way about themselves, as though they too were slightly out-of-date models due an upgrade.

Keld disagrees, in the slow, immovable way of a thing that was made to keep. He thinks they were built to last. He keeps the cellar for the ones who need reminding.

Has not worn out or been replaced in centuries; keeps everything, on principle, from going off.

Two crates, made to keep

Dill keeps company. All of it built to last.

BEFORE YOU GOA WORD FROM THE CELLAR
You could keep feeling behind:

You are not due an upgrade.

The world will keep telling you otherwise, because a person who feels slightly out of date is a person who keeps replacing things, including, eventually, their sense of their own worth. Everything is built to expire on a schedule now, and the logic gets in, until you half-believe you're an older model too.

FEEL OUT OF DATE.REPLACE ON CUE.UPGRADE YOURSELF.
You've called yourself 'past it' about a number that would horrify you written down.

You were made to keep, not to expire when the cycle wants the sale. Set the sharp preserving dill going and let the room be clean and unspoiled and lasting, the way you actually are. Made to keep is not old-fashioned. It is the rarer engineering. So are you.
