Steve, the Shopkeeper.
The inhabitants call him the Wunderer. He calls himself the man who runs the shop. Both are true. He found Wunderwurld, learned it was fading, and decided the sensible response to discovering a dying magical world was to open a till.
Not a chosen one. Just the one who stayed.
There is a prophecy. It is real, and it is vague enough that several creatures have argued over the punctuation. Steve is not a shiny hero and does not pretend to be. He found the door, went through it, and found a whole world quietly going dark.
So he did the only thing a shopkeeper knows how to do. He worked out what the caverns could spare, agreed terms with the residents, and started sending wonders upstairs. The product is the hero. Wunderwurld is the world. Steve is the man trying to keep the whole improbable arrangement moving without being eaten, audited, or corrected by a mushroom.
What to call him
Steve the Shopkeeper
His public name. Runs the shop, writes the odd note, appears where the story genuinely needs him.
The Wunderer
What the inhabitants call him. Guide at the crossroads, matcher of person to wonder, lover of being asked.
The one the prophecy meant
Allegedly. The buffoon the prophet apparently foresaw. Used sparingly, and only when the tone can carry it.
He didn’t start the wurld.
That was someone older, sadder and considerably better at magic.
