WHAT THIS ACTUALLY IS

Niaouli Essential Oil, steam distilled from the leaves of Melaleuca quinquenervia from Indonesia, a paperbark cousin of tea tree, eucalyptus and cajuput. Fresh, clean and green, with a soft, sweet, gently camphoraceous character, rounder and better-mannered than eucalyptus, and notably softer and less harsh than its brisker relatives. It's the smell of a genuinely fresh room that has not, at any point, felt the need to raise its voice about it.

Tace is a bean-tighe, one of the quiet women-of-the-house fairies who keep a place immaculate to an exacting standard and would never dream of mentioning it. She keeps the Quiet Green of the Sanctum, and she trusts niaouli because it minds the room without shouting about it: fresh, clean, soft and green, doing the work and skipping the announcement entirely.

She has watched the Surfacefolk turn cleanliness into a shouting match of neon bottles and capital letters, and, worse, watched them mistake anyone quiet about their standards for someone who hasn't got any. Tace has extremely high standards. She simply sees no reason to raise her voice about them, and rather resents the implication that caring and shouting are the same thing.
