WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SOLD
The Ovurwurld domesticated winter.
Upstairs, they domesticated winter. They strung fairy lights on it, put a playlist over it, ran a sale through it, turned the coldest, quietest, most inward season of the year into a retail quarter with a soundtrack and a countdown. And the old dark conifer, high up where the snow means it, simply declined the makeover. It kept its winter the way winter used to be: quiet, dark, low-voiced and unbothered, a season for going inward rather than shopping outward. Winter, at that altitude, was never a retail quarter.
Winter wasn't a retail quarter at this altitude.
