WHAT YOU'VE BEEN SOLD
Everyone was trained to soften everything.
Somewhere along the line, everyone got trained to soften every single statement into apology. Just checking. Maybe. Sorry, quick question. No worries if not. Whole sentences of padding wrapped around the smallest request, so that nobody ever risks sounding like they actually meant it. It is exhausting, and quietly corrosive, this endless pre-emptive flinching. The loudest herb in the kitchen, meanwhile, has never once in its life said 'no worries if not', and has no intention of starting.
Hot green certainty, sent without a softening emoji.
